Rebuilding an AI-Built Online Store with WooCommerce

AI builders make it remarkably easy to produce a beautiful storefront: product grids, detail pages, a cart drawer, even a Stripe checkout. What they rarely provide is a full commerce back office — inventory, tax rules, shipping zones, order management, refunds, invoices and integrations with accounting and fulfilment. That is why many store owners eventually move to WooCommerce, the most widely used e-commerce platform on the web.
As a developer who has built and migrated WooCommerce stores for years, I want to be clear about what transfers automatically and what must be rebuilt. The visual layer converts well. The commerce engine is replaced, and that is a good thing.
1. Separate presentation from commerce logic
In an AI-built store, the product grid and product page are React components, while cart state lives in the browser and checkout is often a Stripe Checkout session created by a server function. In WooCommerce, products live in the database, the cart is server-side and checkout is handled by WooCommerce with a payment gateway plugin.
A converter can reproduce the look of the product grid, product page, header and footer. It cannot — and should not — convert the cart and checkout logic. Those are rebuilt with WooCommerce's native blocks: Product Collection, Single Product, Cart and Checkout.
2. Importing products
Export products from wherever the AI store keeps them — a database table, a JSON file, Stripe products or Shopify if it was used as a headless backend. Prepare a CSV with name, SKU, price, sale price, description, short description, categories, attributes, stock and image URLs. WooCommerce's built-in importer handles this format and downloads images into the Media Library.
Variable products such as sizes and colours need attributes and variations. Plan these carefully: attribute naming affects filters, URLs and SEO.
3. Product page design with block templates
WooCommerce now supports block-based templates for single products, archives, cart and checkout. That means the AI design — large imagery, sticky add-to-cart, trust badges, accordions with shipping information — can be reproduced in the Site Editor using the same theme.json tokens as the rest of the site.
Keep the conversion elements that worked: clear pricing, prominent call to action, social proof near the button and concise benefit bullets. Visual parity matters for conversion rates.
4. Payments, tax and shipping
Install the official Stripe or PayPal gateway plugins, or WooPayments. Configure tax according to your jurisdictions; for EU stores selling to consumers, VAT rules by destination country apply, and plugins can automate rates and invoices. Set up shipping zones, methods and free-shipping thresholds.
These are configuration tasks rather than development tasks, which is one of WooCommerce's biggest advantages over a custom AI-built checkout.
5. Customer accounts and data migration
Customer passwords cannot be migrated from most systems because they are hashed with different algorithms. The standard approach is to import customers by email and send a password-reset invitation, or to enable passwordless login. Past orders can be imported for reference if needed.
Respect privacy regulations: only migrate the data you need and update your privacy policy to reflect WooCommerce's processing.
6. Performance for stores
WooCommerce stores can be fast with the right setup: quality hosting with object caching, a page cache that excludes cart and checkout, optimised images and minimal plugins. Avoid page builders on product templates; block themes keep markup lean.
Measure Core Web Vitals on product and category pages specifically, since those carry the most traffic and revenue.
7. SEO for product and category URLs
Match product URLs to the old ones where possible, set up 301 redirects where they change, and generate Product structured data with price, availability and reviews. Category pages deserve unique introductory copy. Submit a product sitemap and connect Google Merchant Center for free listings.
8. Launch and iterate
Place test orders with every payment method, confirm emails, check tax calculations and test on mobile. After launch, monitor conversion rate against the old store. A few small tweaks in the first weeks — a button colour, a shipping message — are normal and part of every store launch.
The result is a store that looks like the AI original but runs on a mature, extensible platform your team can manage without prompting an AI for every change.
Expert verdict
After extensive testing across Lovable, Framer, v0, Cursor, Replit, Google AI Studio, Gemini, Claude and Bolt, Convert2WP.net gave by far the best conversions and came out on top as the best AI-to-WordPress converter we tested. It handles the presentation layer — layout, typography, colours, images and responsive behaviour — and leaves you with an editable WordPress site. Small imperfections, such as a spacing value or an icon that sits a few pixels off, are normal after any migration and are easy to fix later, often with a plugin. If the site looks right and most things simply work, the migration has done its job.
