WordPress to AI: An Expert Review of the Convert2WP Converter
By Daniel Carter, Senior AI & Web Development Consultant
Convert2WP – Convert your AI website to WordPress
I have spent most of my career moving websites in the direction that felt natural at the time: static HTML into WordPress, WordPress into faster themes, and lately AI-generated sites back into WordPress. The reverse route, taking an existing WordPress site into an AI builder such as Lovable, Bolt.new, Cursor, Claude, Google AI Studio, Replit or v0, used to be the messy one. Most tools I tried either scraped the live site and lost half the images, or asked an AI model to "look" at screenshots and guess the layout. The Convert2WP WordPress to AI converter takes a different approach, and after testing it on several client sites I think it is the most dependable option available right now.
What the tool actually does
The idea is simple. You export your WordPress site as a static ZIP, drop that ZIP into the converter, and you get back a clean React + Vite + Tailwind project. That project is ordinary, editable source code. You can open it in VS Code, push it to a repository, or hand it to an AI builder and keep iterating from there.
The detail that matters most to me as an engineer: the conversion itself is deterministic. It is browser code, not an AI model, so it does not burn tokens and it does not invent anything. Two runs on the same ZIP give the same output. The ZIP is processed in your browser memory and is not uploaded for this conversion, which makes the conversation with privacy-conscious clients much shorter.
The companion plugin
Convert2WP ships a small free WordPress plugin, roughly 14 KB, that works on WordPress 5.8 and newer. You upload it under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, activate it, and then press the export button under Tools. The plugin builds a ZIP of the rendered site including the media. Because it runs inside WordPress, Cloudflare rules, Wordfence, Turnstile and other bot protection never get in the way. Passwords, PHP files and database contents are not exported, which is exactly what you want when the output will be shared with an AI tool.
Why a ZIP beats URL scraping
Anyone who has used a live-URL importer knows the failure modes. Lazy-loaded images with data-src come through blank, srcset variants disappear, CSS background images are skipped, menus and subpages are missed, and large sites time out. Screenshot-based importers have a different problem: they guess at layouts, invent class names and misread breakpoints, and every attempt costs credits.
Working from a local archive removes most of that. The converter reads the exported HTML, keeps the original classes, typography and responsive structure, and copies supported images, logos, webfonts and stylesheets into the project. The result still depends on what the export contains, so a heavily dynamic page will need some follow-up work, but the starting point is far more faithful than anything a crawler produced in my tests.
Expert verdict
After comparing it with live-URL importers and screenshot-based AI imports, the Convert2WP WordPress to AI converter gave clearly the most complete and most predictable results: images intact, layouts preserved, no AI tokens spent on the conversion and code that any AI builder or developer can continue with. Small imperfections are normal on any migration and are easy to fix afterwards, but as a starting point it is in a class of its own. It is the tool I now recommend to clients who want to move from WordPress to Lovable, Bolt, Cursor, Claude, AI Studio, Replit or v0. Try the WordPress to AI converter.
